Training and Experience
My formal training includes a Ph.D. (2006) and an M.Ed. (1993) -- both in Counseling Psychology -- from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I have held a PA Psychology License since 2009 and have operated my private practice in Bucks County since 2012.
I began my career working in an outpatient program for high-risk teenagers and their families in suburban New Jersey. I went on to work in several outpatient, partial care (day program), and private practice settings. I have counseled adults, couples, families, children, and teens. I have a special interest in working with young adults getting out on their own -- usually those struggling with career dilemmas, ADHD, developmental or learning issues, and/or partner relationships.
In addition, my training includes working with older adults during a pre-doctoral internship at the Coatesville Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chester County, PA (2002-2003). While at the VAMC, I learned relaxation techniques for managing anxiety, as well as skills for applying hypnosis for pain management. I completed two rotations in the VA nursing home, working with older veterans, their care partners, and other family members.
I also have a special interest in career development. In career counseling sessions, I may address broad issues of finding one's mission and meaning. At other times I may address practical tasks, such as identifying values, interests, and transferable skills.
Prior to entering the field of psychology, I earned a bachelor's degree with Honors in English and American Literature from Brown University (1991).
