Career CounselingHate your job? Unsure what kind of work would make you happy? Stuck in your career? I offer individual career counseling in a brief, five-session format with a small group of written assessments to aid in the process.
Each session is structured and includes individually tailored homework assignments. My goal is to help individuals gain self-knowledge and adaptable outlooks that can be useful in navigating today's competitive work world. While in the past career counseling often focused on the counselor matching client with career, I believe instead that each person should be encouraged to create for themselves a life/work vision reflecting their passions, values, and sense of personal mission. Couples/Marital Counseling Couples may seek counseling for a variety of reasons -- from communication problems and disagreements over in-laws to intimacy problems and infidelity. I use a no-blame approach and work to keep our sessions on-track. Each partner holds important insights and feelings, which when explored in a safe and supportive way, may form the foundation for a more satisfying relationship. |
Personal CounselingParents often call me for help with a teen who is depressed, struggling socially, anxious, and/or dealing with career indecision, among other concerns. It's important to understand the young person's point of view, and also that of the parents, siblings, and other important people in their life. I may suggest a blend of family and individual sessions in these situations, and I may ask to communicate with school staff, pediatricians, and other healthcare providers as necessary. While each young person is unique, I tend to take a practical, strength-based approach. Along the way I welcome feedback from each family as to what they and their teen are getting out of our work together.
Just as often, I receive calls from adults requesting individual sessions to work on any number of common issues: depression, anxiety, panic episodes, relationship issues, trauma, loss, caregiver stress, anger, grieving, attention and concentration problems, chronic pain, disability, divorce, job stress, and many others. I believe each person holds inner resources, strengths, and abilities they can call upon to move through difficult times and challenges. |
